Contributions to ‘Beneficial Microbes’ must be original (research) and will be subject to peer review. Submitted papers must follow the
authors guidelines
to be considered for review and publication. An
Endnote Style
for the journal is available for download. Refereeing of papers is conducted anonymously and the identity of the referees is not disclosed.
Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The publication must be approved by all authors and tacitly by the institute where the work was carried out.
Authors are encouraged to submit a manuscript to ‘Beneficial Microbes’ in any of the following categories:
Research articles (peer reviewed)
A full length report of original research with added value to beneficial microbes research or policy. A research article must be provided with abstract, keywords, introduction, and when applicable materials and methods, results, discussion and reference list. A research article has a length between 8 and 10 pages in the journal.
Short communications (peer reviewed)
Short original research articles, rapid publications, as well interesting case reports worth publishing but with less body than for a full length report. A short communication must be provided with abstract, keywords, introduction, and when applicable materials and methods, results, discussion and reference list. A short communication should not exceed 4 pages in the journal.
Review article (peer reviewed)
Review articles provide a focused, current discussion of a scholarly topic relevant to beneficial microbes. A review article contains an overview of current research in the field, supplies links between research areas, discusses and provides new ideas and possibilities for further research. It contains an extensive reference list. Proposals to reviews should be submitted to a Section Editor or the Editor in Chief prior to preparation. A review article has a length between 10 and 15 pages in the journal.
Short review (peer reviewed)
Short review articles are identical to the larger review articles, except that they are devoted to a smaller subject of beneficial microbes research. Proposals for short reviews should be submitted to the appropriate Section Editor prior to preparation. A short review has a length between 4 and 8 pages in the Journal.
Letter to the editor
A letter to the editor provides a means to react to published articles. They should be received within 3 months of the mailing of the journal and should not exceed one page. Introduction of new data will not be permitted. Each letter will be submitted to the author of the original paper so that any reply may be published simultaneously with the letter.
Opinion paper
Articles especially focused on policy and policy makers. How beneficial microbes research is or should be translated into health and safety regulation issues, as well as critical commentaries on beneficial microbes policy statements and regulations. An opinion paper has a maximum length of 4 pages in the journal and must contain a reference list.
Hypothesis paper (peer reviewed)
A hypothesis paper is both speculative and innovative. It contains ideas, hypotheses and theories, but hard evidence for them is yet lacking. It should motivate to start new paths of research and further thinking. A hypothesis paper has a length between 4 to 6 pages and must contain a reference list.
Book review
A book review is a condensed 1-page discussion of a recently published book on subjects broadly relevant to beneficial microbes research and policy. The reviewer gives his comments on the relevance and contents of the book. Book title, author(s)/editor(s), publisher, ISBN and price are given as well.
Curriculum vitae
When a renowned scientist in the field of beneficial microbes research retires, wins a prestigious prize or dies, the journal can devote an article on his/her scientific career and most important achievements. Proposals for a curriculum vitae should be submitted to the editor-in-chief prior to preparation. A curriculum is between 2 and 4 pages in the journal and contains a reference list with selected publications of the scientist.
Submitting events for Beneficial Microbes Calendar
The calendar in ‘Beneficial Microbes’ will provide an overview of the important international and national beneficial microbes conferences, seminars and meetings world wide, announcements of international projects, as well as beneficial microbes-related courses and events. Conference and workshop organisers, as well as project leaders are encouraged to submit their information to the
Editorial office
of the journal.
Copyright
Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to transfer copyright to the publisher. After
copyright transfer
, the paper may not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the publisher. If excerpts from other copyrighted works are included in the manuscript, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owner(s).
