World Mycotoxin Journal - Editor-in-chief
Hans van Egmond is senior scientist, Cluster Natural Toxins and Pesticides, at the RIKILT Institute of Food Safety, Wageningen, the Netherlands. He holds a MSc. degree in Food Technology (Wageningen University, the Netherlands), and he is Fellow of AOAC International, as well as Fellow of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

The professional interests of Hans van Egmond are primarily in the food safety area, and specifically deal with mycotoxins, phycotoxins and plant toxins. He is author and co-author of 190 research and review publications in the area of natural toxins, and he has (co-)edited 10 books in this field. He and his colleagues at RIKILT are involved in activities with several international organisations (currently including various Services of the European Commission, AOAC International, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, the European Food Safety Authority, the European Committee for Standardization, and the European Pharmacopoeia). These largely take place at the interface of analytical methodology, risk assessment and legislative requirements for natural toxins.

Hans van Egmond is scientist-in-charge of the EU National Reference Laboratory on Marine Biotoxins in the Netherlands and he has responsibilities in several interlaboratory research and networking projects funded by the European Commission in its 6th and 7th Framework Programmes, such as BioCop, MoniQA, CONffIDENCE and MycoRed, mainly in workpackages on mycotoxins and plant toxins. He has been teacher at various mycotoxin training courses that took place in Africa, Asia, Europe and South-America. He was Associate Editor of the Journal of Natural Toxins and member of the Editorial Board of AOAC International, and now serves as the first Editor-in-chief of ‘World Mycotoxin Journal’.
