Abstract:

In total, 1,908 genotyped Japanese Black cattle were used to infer non-additive genetic effects for carcass weight and beef marbling score (BMS) and to validate accuracy of the genomic predictions for the traits. Genomic models including dominance, imprinting, or both effects were used in this analysis. Ratios of the dominance and imprinting variance to the phenotypic variance for the traits were small and ranged from 0.08 to 0.10 and from 0.05 to 0.06, respectively. In addition, any genomic models including non-additive genetic effects did not improve accuracy of the genomic predictions. In contrast to the previous pedigreebased studies which showed large imprinting variances and effects for BMS, small imprinting variances and variance ratios for BMS were found in this study using genomic information. To find out the differences between pedigree and genomic based studies, further studies are required.
